I love the red carpet. I also have the short-term memory of Dory from Nemo, so I take notes. With a glass of champagne in one hand, clipboard in the other, I am happy as a clam. By the way are clams happy? And how would anyone know? Don’t they get eaten? By us?? Anyway, here are my favorite highlights from the night, as well as some low lights from the 2016 Golden Globes.
Most Beautiful Families
It’s a tie between the perfection of the Pinkett-Smiths (Do these two ever age???) and….
the gorgeous group of supermodel in training Stallone girls. Who knew Rocky would produce such beauty? I guess having a model for your mum can’t hurt.
Bringing it with the haute-couture.
Jane Fonda in YSL. I’ll admit it’s not for everybody, but to me the ruffles, makeup and hair were exquisite.
Dresses with cutouts were a huge statement last night. They are usually not my favorite as it gives me flashbacks to Paris Hilton wearing a monokini, but I think J Law did it best. The statement necklace brought the wow. I just kept wishing her hair was down, as I think it makes her look more young and fun, like herself. I have read buzz that she has been criticized by some Hollywood peeps for being too young to portray some her roles, and since the movie Joy is getting her Oscar buzz, maybe this is a subtle hint at an older look.
Strike a Pose
If J. Law wore the color of ketchup then J.Lo wore the color of spicy mustard and it was delicious. She is fierce when it comes to nailing the red carpet stance. I don’t think we have seen her rock a red lip since her fly girl days, but like everything else she does it was flawless.
The Genetic Lottery
Really? Really? What part of this is fair? She’s pretty much perfect.
And I so love the dark brown velvet tux of her tough guy, and now fiance, Jason Statham.
Simple and Chic
Sometimes staying head to toe classic and clean look just right. Both Laverne and Emmy kept it simple and it worked. Bonus points for neither lady tripping on their lovely pooled trains. I would have broken several bones.
A lot of ladies were wearing this low-cut style first made popular by Jennifer Lopez in her P.Diddy days. But Jenny from the block had the globes to pull it off. I’m not really understanding the look when it is used to advertise what you don’t have, or when it is overselling what you obviously do. When it comes to the plunge look it’s easy to end up looking either androgynous ,or trashy, with classy somewhere in between. Zendaya found that sweet spot that shows just enough but still seems innocent. Keep in mind, she is only 19 and has been carrying herself like a true star.
And when it came time for the after party? She did what any 19-year-old would do – she hiked up the bottom hem so she could dance the night away.
Let’s hear it for the boys…
Yes, Jon Hamm, you are a stud, whether or not we want to admit it, because none of us can tell if you are a Don Draper or an actual nice guy.
Oh and these two looked pretty good too…
Did you know that Rachel McAdams was there? Is anyone else still obsessing about these two getting back together. I know there is Eva and the baby and all that but damn they were a great pair.
If this was a game of golf I’d ask for a mulligan…
Amy! I love you! So who put you in this frumpy Gone With The Wind Ballgown? You are way too cool for this dress.
I would have loved to have seen her rock a more edgy option, like an asymmetrically cut jumpsuit from Roland Mouret with crazy cool earrings…
or a lace halter jumpsuit.
I love that Heidi Klum always tries something different but this one…
reminded me too much of this…
Kate – sink this look. It screams 90s prom or mother of the bride. You are way too beautiful for this. Plus you always win everything so you deserve better from a gown.
So what are your thoughts? Let me know! I’d love to hear. The best part about fashion is that just like art, it’s interpretation is subjective. There is no right, no wrong, only your opinion. Let’s just pretend this is me looking over my shoulder saying bye…
Oh and here I am walking away, pretending to be the uber-fabulous Olivia Palermo…
*Insider Tip – Take a moment.
The world lost an amazing rock God. David Bowie changed music in fashion and there has never been anyone like him. The man wore a suit with a serious amount of sex appeal and swagger. He is gone but will never be forgotten.
